Danse Rustique by Squire: Lesson Ideas

5. Performance

When working on this piece, I like to refer my pupils to their imagination by asking them to think of an image that comes to their mind while listening to the recording of this piece. One of them came up with the great idea of a walk with their dog! You can hear the pace of the pet’s walk and the enthusiasm in the articulation and tail wagging. Images and colours can help bringing us to the “performance zone”. Use the Ben Marcato making at the beginning, to show full commitment in your playing with very energetic bowing. The chords at the end will help shape the “grand finale” by making sure you use left hand vibrato and full bows.
