Over the bars - Piano grade 8 - To swing or not to swing?

Hi!

So one of my students have selected 'Over the bars' from the C group  (current grade 8 syllabus). The ABRSM audio downloaded file sounds like the opening theme is suppose to be swingy quavers.. however the sheet music itself does not state that, and almost every other recording that I've heard of it online is played with straight quavers :O

Can anyone advise further on this?

Thanks,

Jess

Hi Jess!
I think my colleague Rob has just responded to your email to our team about this. But I thought i'd post the response here too just in case anyone else is also teaching this piece.
The recording we have provided is just one interpretation of how the music may be played and we encourage candidates to listen to a wide variety of performances to help inform their own decisions. Whether the piece contains musical indications or not, candidates are encouraged to interpret the score in a musical and stylistic way. Examiners’ marking will be determined by how control of pitch, time, tone, shape and performance contributes to the overall musical outcome.
